SIMON BOLIVAR 

Plaque, Dundas St. W. on the north side of Trinity Park, Toronto

Known as “The Liberator”, Simon Bolivar (1783-1830) led a war for independence of the colonies of Spain in America in the 1810-26. Tributes on his plaque in Trinity Park are in English and Spanish and include “Statesman - soldier - humanist and hero; Great Visionary - Man of Glory - Writer” attesting to his role as a Venezuelan patriot and statesman. The plaque was unveiled in 1983 on the bicentenary of his birth on behalf of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru and Venezuela. Bolivar lives through the ages for the peoples of all countries who cherish freedom, independence and a better life.
